Waste-Side Cut Jig for Tracksaws: A Video Guide.

New on YouTube: The Strawbyte Track Saw Guide

The story of how I came be manufacturing a precision tool in volume from the kitchen table is probably worthy of a longer article of its own. However, since featuring a simply made alignment guide for my track saw rail in December, I’ve been somewhat surprised as to how popular they are. So this week I’ve finally got around to putting out a ‘how to use’ video on YouTube.

The guide allows you to align your guide-rail to a pencil mark and account for the kerf of the blade. Kerfmaker for tracksaws, perhaps. If you’ve ever wanted the piece you cut off from the board to be properly dimensioned you’ll know how tricky it is to get that right. To address that specific problem this video provides a simple 4 step approach to using the guide:

  1. Line-up the guide to the pencil mark by sighting through the window lining up the centre edge to the pencil line.

  2. Bring the rail up to the other side of the guide’s centre ridge

  3. Remove the guide from under the rail.

  4. Make you cut as before.

And there you have it. If you’ve any thoughts or suggestions, please leave a comment on YouTube.

The guides are for sale on this website, click here and select the version you require based on the saw that you own. If you can’t find the ‘kerf’ you need for your saw, let me know and I’ll add that saw to the range.
